Introduction to Excel

Excel Introduction is for people new to Spreadsheets, and for self-taught users to enhance their knowledge. It is a prerequisite for the Intermediate course.

 

Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to perform a selection of the tasks listed below:

  • Recognise the main areas of the Excel window & workbook
  • Enter, edit and delete data in a workbook
  • Create workbooks using formulae and functions, including SUM, AVERAGE, MAX & MIN
  • Use formatting to improve the presentation of the spreadsheet
  • Set print settings and print the spreadsheet

The aim of this course is to increase your productivity through acquainting yourself with more of Excel 2013’s many features. You will cover using names, creating templates, applying protection, linking and consolidating workbooks and worksheets, charting, applying more functions and creating and using Styles.

 

Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to perform a selection of the tasks listed below:

  • Use manuals and on-line help to solve operation problems
  • Create styles and apply the styles to data in a workbook and/or worksheet
  • Define, create, paste and apply names
  • Prepare templates; build workbooks and worksheets based on those templates
  • Link workbooks and/or worksheets, and consolidate workbooks and/or worksheets
  • Protect workbooks, worksheets and parts of a worksheet
  • Produce charts to clearly show patterns in spreadsheet data

Excel Advanced

This course is designed to assist the user in becoming more proficient in Excel’s advanced data analysis, formatting and handling capabilities.

Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to perform a selection of the tasks listed below:

  • Establish data tables to speed the calculation of functions where one or two arguments take on a variety of values
  • Outline a complex, detailed worksheet to speed, simplify and control the display of differing levels of summary data
  • Create custom views to control viewing and printing
  • Create and manage scenarios – named collections of values
  • Bring text files into Excel and separate data into distinct columns
  • Use and manage tables, including sorting, filtering, subtotalling and preparing pivot table reports
  • Utilise a variety of Excel’s functions
  • Record, edit, debug and comment a basic macro and run it from, hot-key combination, worksheet button or toolbar icon

Word Intermediate

By the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • Set Tabs
  • Insert and work with Tables
  • Apply paragraph numbering
  • Work with Headers and Footers
  • Create sections to enhance the display of the document
  • Mail merge form letters and labels

Word Advanced – Long Documents

The aim of this course is to introduce you to more of Word’s many features, including styles, complex headers and footers, outlining, tables and references.

 

Upon completion of this course the participant will be able:

  • Use Styles effectively to speed up formatting tasks
  • Apply paragraph numbering and outline levels to paragraphs
  • Create Tables and references including Table of Contents, Indexes and Cross References
