Melbourne Cup

Friday 11-11-2016

1st of November, SIA celebrated the Melbourne Cup with a variety of fun activities. Obviously no one could miss one of the most important days in Australia! ‘It’s the race that stops the nation!’

This horse-racing tradition takes place on the Flemington Racecourse and originated in 1861. By that time, the race was 2 miles long which was shortened to 1.988 miles (3200 m) in 1870 after Australia adopted the metric system.

Ever since this time, the race has been held by the Victoria Racing Club and celebrated across Australia, every first Tuesday of November at 3 pm.

On this day, students and teachers had arranged an unforgettable day full of events and attractions such as wooden horse races and a luncheon which was shared by everyone.

Thanks to all our students for their delicious dishes and being part of the fun which everyone enjoyed!
